Donetsk National Medical University happens to be one of the largest medical universities of the former USSR. This University is considered to be one of the best medical schools in Ukraine. Established in 1930 as M. Gorky Donetsk Medical Institute, it was given the status of University in 1994 and upgraded to National Medical University in 2008.
During the last 78 of its existence, it has produced over 40,000 highly qualified doctors, renowned scientists, researchers, health service organizers from Ukraine, Russia, other ex-soviet republics, and from 89 countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and America.
This University has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is registered in the World Medical Universities list because of its high teaching standards.

More than 15,000 students are studying at eight faculties of M.Gorky Donetsk National Medical University.
There are over 4,200 students from Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Armenia, USA, Germany, Poland, Greece, Israel, Turkey, India, China, Malaysia, Mauritius, Pakistan, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Peru, Palestine, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Syria, Tunisia, Lebanon and other countries studying here.
It was the first ever medical university in Ukraine and in eastern Europe to start the faculties of Medicine and Dentistry in English language so as to help foreign students learn, in 1991 after independence of Ukraine.
Its highest ranking, superior level of specialist training, state-of-the-art laboratories, finesse of English speaking staff makes this university a hit amongst foreign students.
M.Gorky Donetsk National Medical University has been recognized as the best training-methodical centre among Ukrainian medical universities from 2001 till 2011. It as well was awarded certificates from Ukrainian Health Ministry and Ministry of Education.
This university trains specialists along the following education and qualification levels: Junior specialists, specialists, Masters for the specialties, such as Medicine, Paediatrics, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Public Health, and as well proffer Post-Graduate Education and Preparatory courses.
