Kyrgyz Russian Slavic University (KRSU) is one of the well-renowned institute for higher education in Kyrgyzstan. It came into existence in 1993 and was named in 2004 after Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin, the First President of Russian Federation as a symbol of appreciation and respect in establishing the University.

The university aims at providing the best knowledge in humanitarian, economic, legal, natural and technical areas with the best technical and scientific capabilities of Kyrgyzstan and Russia.


Founded in 1993 in accordance with The Warsaw Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation.

The Faculty of Medicine of the KRSU was founded in 1994, which aims to produce high quality Doctors & specialists.

Ever since the university was established, the Yeltsin Foundation remains a trusted partner because of the cooperation and the financial support that the foundation has been providing to the university.

Department & Infrastructure

KRSU has 8 faculties, 80 academic departments, 6 research centers, 15 scientific and educational centers, 4 laboratories, a law center, a medical center and 25 institutes of students’ aesthetic education. The University academic and research staff totals up to 1973. Over 11,000 students currently study at the university which includes 900 foreign students. KRSU is approved by Medical Council of India (MCI), WHO, ECFMG and IMED. Post Graduate training programs are offered in more than 26 fields including Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Surgery. Cardiovascular Surgery & Oncology amongst others. Graduates of the Faculty of Medicine are entitled for diplomas from both the states – the Russian Federation and the Kyrgyz Republic. The faculty has 30 specialized departments and 390 highly experienced lecturers.

Medical Faculty of KRSU has produced therapists, surgeons, neuropathologists, gynecologists, traumatologists and many other specialties of doctors.

With the financial help that Yeltsin Foundation provides, KRSUhas all the modern equipment for effective learning, well-equipped classrooms, and University wide Internet access. Also, financial aid is provided to 50 best students. Special importance is provided to the high quality of teaching and learning resources and the advanced research and training facilities.

University is located in the capital and largest city of the Kyrgyz Republic, Bishkek. The city is the administrative center of the Chuy Region and a province-level unit of Kyrgyzstan.

Manas International Airport is located approximately 25 kilometers northwest of the city center and is reachable by taxi.

Bishkek is the largest city with the highest population in Kyrgyz Republic.

Physical Location

KRSU is located in Bishkek. The city, Bishkek is situated at an altitude of about 800 meters off the northern fringe of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range of the Tian Shan mountain.A fertile steppe extends far north of the city into neighboring Kazakhstan. The Chui River flows through most of the area.

City’s Development

The capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek is the most populated city of the country.Known for wild boulevards and marble-faced public buildings, it is the country’s financial centre with the country’s most of the commercial banks having their headquarters in the city. To make it easy for students and international travelers, it has modern shopping malls and super markets that has everything a student may require.
Bus service and taxis are available in the city at a reasonable cost.


Average daily high temperatures range from 3 °C in January to about 31 °C during July. Summers are usually dry with occasional thunderstorm and strong gusty winds, while in winter snow storms and frequent heavy fog can be expected.


University has rooms available in hostels. Staying in the Hostel for first year is compulsory though post that majority of students stay outside in a private accommodation which is comparatively cheaper. Hostel fees is around USD 500 per year.


KRSU has many Indian students. Indian food is available at a cost of USD 100 per month in the university.

Medium of Study

The teaching was earlier provided only in Russian language, however from FALL 2015, the Medical school at KSRU has started accepting students with English as the medium of instruction.
