Kyrgyz State Medical Academy is the oldest university for medical education. The university is officially known as Kyrgyz State Medical Academy named after I.K. Akhunbaev. The university is situated in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The university was established on September 1st 1939. It began with the recruitment of 200 students. It is located in Bishkek. It is officially known as Kyrgyz State Medical University and it was named after I K Akhunbaev. Moscow Medical Institute, High Medical Schools of St Petersburg Almaty and other medical institutions contributed to the establishment of the school. The first graduation of students was in 1943. The school began its 6-year training program after the end of the war. It formed relations with scientific institutions of the Soviet Republic. In 1996 by the decree of the President of the Republic, the university was reorganized to Kyrgyz State Medical Academy.

The university has five faculties- Faculty of preventive medicines, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pediatrics, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Faculty of General Medicine. To provide high security to students all the hostels are provided CCTV surveillance. In addition to this separate guard is appointed on each hostel gate for 24*7 security. The dormitories offer numerous amenities such as hot and cold water, a mess for food, a separate study room, a kitchen area, and a common room.
The university has 8 hostels. The hostels have a kitchen where students can cook for themselves. Each block has a shower room, toilet, and a wash basin. It has 2 or more bedrooms in each block. Each hostel hosts 200+ students. The hostels have internet access, a reading hall and an infirmary.
