The Kyrgyz State Medical Institute (KSMA) started functioning on 1 September 1939 in the city of Bishkek (formerly Frunze), Kyrgyzstan. First Moscow Medical Institute and other high medical schools of Saint-Petersburg, Almaty, Tashkent provided expertise and organizational assistance, medical guidelines and training books as well as faculty staff. This largely contributed to its establishment.

The academy is recognized by the government of Kyrgyz Republic, WHO and MCI. Based out of the capital city of Kyrgyz Republic i.e. Bishkek, this academy puts to use most modern methods and advanced technology to teach foreign students.


Kyrgyz State Medical Academy was established in 1939 as a medical institute, with the recruitment of 200 students.Today, it is one of the leading medical academies among all medical colleges in Kyrgyzstan.

Department & Infrastructure

Over 12,000 students are studying at the institute, which as well includes 1,735 students from countries such as India, Iran, Israel, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Turkmenistan, the United States, and Uzbekistan.

The clinical hospitals at the Medical Institute are equipped to train students. To top it, all types of diagnostics, thermo vision, angiography, endoscopic technique, highly effective means of treatment by hyperbaric oxygenation, laser therapy, modern efferent methods of detoxication are used.

Kyrgyz State Medical Academy is comprised of the following faculties:

  • General Medicine, Paeditrics, Pharmacy, Public Health, Preparatory, etc.
  • The General Medicine is the most diverse faculty with maximum number of students.
  • The General Medicine faculty is the one that is available in English medium for foreigner students and this faculty is highly qualified, skilled and efficient in teaching foreign students.
  • All other courses available here are in Russian / Kyrgyz medium only.

Physical Location

Bishkek, formerly Pishpek and Frunze, is the capital and largest city of the Kyrgyz Republic. It as well is the administrative centre of the Chui Region. The province surrounds the city and it is a province-level unit of Kyrgyzstan.

Bishkek is situated just off the northern fringe of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range, an extension of the Tian Shan mountain range. North of the city lies a fertile and gently undulating steppe that extends far north into neighbouring Kazakhstan. The Chui River drains most of the area. Bishkek is connected to the Turkestan-Siberia Railway by a spur line.

Bishkek has a dry summer continental climate. Average precipitation is around 440 millimetres per year. Average daily high temperatures range from 3 Degrees Celsius in January to about 31 Degrees Celsius during July.

Medium of Study

Medium of imparting education is English and Russian, depending upon the course you pick. As the General Medicine is taught in English medium for foreigner students. All other courses available here are in Russian/Kyrgyz medium only.
