Riga Stradins University, Republic of Latvia
Riga stradins University is located in Riga, Latvia. It was established in 1950 as Riga Medical Institute. It was founded on the basis of the Faculty of Medicine of State University of Latvia. The founders of the university were professors Ernests Burtnieks and Paul Stradins. At first the school only had Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy and 45 departments. It is a public school that offers various study programs. It ensures scientific projects are realized, and offers training of experts in healthcare and social sciences who work in Latvia and worldwide.
The institute was renamed medical Academy of Latvia in 1990. It became Riga Stradins university in 1998. It offers High School students together with doctors of science the opportunity to study at RSU and enhance their education. It has 9 faculties that offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

The ‘Stradins’ name in the university is owed to the Stradins family who have had a significant contribution to the community and academic life in Latvia. The school offers a range of academic and professional education to research opportunities in fields of social care, health care, natural sciences and social sciences. The university has been integrated into the healthcare system of the country. The university is autonomous and academically free to pursue its tasks and goals in order to benefit the country and the society. The current Rector of the university is Prof. Aigars Petersons.
The faculties in the university include Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Public Health and Social Welfare, Faculty of Rehabilitation, Faculty of Communications, Faculty of European studies, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Continuing Education.
It has approximately 7000 students. Latvian is the primary language of instruction though various faculties offer programs in English to cater to international students. The school has a department of international students.
