Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University
The university was established in 1930, and is located in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The first rector of the university was known as S.D Asfendiyarov. The decision to open the school was made by the resolution of the ICC of the RSFSR of 1930. By 1931, the staff consisted of 5 professors, 13 assistants, 4 associate professors, and 2 teachers. The first graduation held in 1936 involved 66 graduates.
The faculty of pediatrics was opened in 1938 after identifying there was a shortage of pediatricians. 84 teachers and 262 students were sent to the front during the first days of the Great Patriotic War. During the war, 2000 doctors graduated from the institute. The faculty of sanitation and hygiene was opened due to a growing epidemic during the war.
