Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University is a public university located in Batumi, Georgia. It was established in 1935. In 1938, it was named after Shota Rustaveli, a medieval poet. Initially, in 1935, the university was a two year teaching institute that was opened in a Boys gymnasium located in Batumi. It had four faculties: Georgian language and literature, physics-mathematics, history and natural geography. In 1936, the faculty was added, and in 1938, the faculties of Russian language and literature were also added.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli is a center for education, science and culture of Georgia. The school’s current rector is Merab Khalvashi. It offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. The university highly incorporates modern teaching which includes e-learning.

The school has 9 Faculties. They include faculties of Education, Natural Sciences and Health, Economics and Business, Social and Political Sciences, Technology, Mathematics and Computer Science, Humanities and Tourism. There are 69 researchers, 460 visiting teachers, and 277 professors who are involved in the tutoring, and the research process of the school. Both the academic and scientific staff are active participants in exchange programs and scientific conferences held abroad.

The university has a department for career development, culture and sports. Other facilities include a student science center, a library, a newspaper, and a publishing house. There is also a student government body.
