Cairo University is a premier public university located in Egypt. The school’s main campus is in Giza. It was established on 21st December, 1908. At that time, it was known as Egyptian University. It was founded by a committee of private citizens with royal patronage. It became a state institution in 1925 under King Fuad. The first female students enrolled into the university in 1928. After he died, the school changed its name to King Fuad I in 1940 in his honor.

The university is one of the largest institutions in Egypt. It is also one of the largest 50 institutions of higher education in the world by enrollment. It enrolls approximately 1,55,000 students. The school has 20 faculties and 3 institutions. Three of its graduates are recognized as Laureates.

Cairo University has a school of law and a school of medicine. The school has 12, 158 administrative staff.
