Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University was the first national university in the Caucasus. The university has 12 founders, and all founders received their higher education from European countries. The university started with the faculty of philosophy; however with time, it expanded and brought knowledge of various fields. It is recognized by the Georgian education Ministry, Education commission of foreign Medical Graduate, and Medical council of India.
The university has seven faculties named faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of social and political science, Faculty of Psychology and Education Science, and many more.
