The university was established in 2005 and named after Tan Sri Dato Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah. The university offers various study options and a supportive environment for studying. The first two cohorts of its Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine were placed in Victoria, Australia from 2005 to 2006. The university became fully operational in 2009 with 5 cohorts of students. The students were from year one to year five enrolled in the MBBS program. The MD program is similar to the one offered in Monash University, Australia running at the same time in 3 campuses- Clayton, Malaysia and Gippsland.
