Russian Peoples Friendship University
Russian Peoples Friendship University is located in Moscow, Russia. It was formed in 1960 by the Soviet government. The main aim of its establishment was to assist developing nations. However, it accommodates many students from developed countries as well. The schools name changed to Patrice Lumumba University. Patrice Lumumba was a Congolese Independence leader.
The first Rector of the university was Professor Sergey V. Ruiantsev. Russian Language studies were introduced at the Faculty of History and Philology, Faculty of Engineering, Medical Faculty, Agricultural Faculty, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Economics. In 1965 the first 288 students who were from 47 countries graduated. By 1975 graduates had increased to more than 5,600 from 89 foreign countries.

The degrees offered include Bachelor’s degrees, state specialist degrees, medical doctor degrees, master’s degrees, PHD and summer school programs. The university became a major educational and scientific center from 1970-1993. In 1992, the Russian Federation Government renamed the university to Peoples Friendship University. The school staff consists of more than 5000 employees.
The faculties and institutes include Faculty of Humanitarian and Social Sciences, Engineering Academy, Agrarian Technological Institute, Faculty of the Russian Language and General Educational Disciplines, Institute for Medicine, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Ecology, Faculty of Economics, Institute for Law, and Institute of Hospitality Business and Tourism.
It holds events, festivals, weeks of culture and competitions. It has student organizations such as KVN, RUDN Women committee, and International Culture center. It has a sports complex that is a walking distance from the dormitories and the academic buildings. It has a football and hockey box, aerobics hall, 200-meter indoor track for track and field and 2 basketball and 1 volleyball court.
The university provides accommodation facilities with more than 14 hostels available. The accommodation facilities can host up to 9000 students. The rooms are on a sharing basis.
