University of Latvia is a public university that is run by the state and is located in Riga, Latvia. It was formed in 1919 and it was initially known as Higher School of Latvia. It was established on the basis of the former Riga Polytechnic. The university was given its current name in 1923. The first rector of the university was known as Paul Walden. Between the years 1919 and 1940, 

University of Latvia was the major center of higher education, culture and Science in the Republic of Latvia. The schools main building is that of the former Riga Polytechnic. The school offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs. The school has more than 14,000 students.

University Introduction:

After Latvia regained independence, the Supreme council of the Republic of Latvia reconfirmed the constitution of the University of Latvia. This took place in 1991. The constitution stated that the university was a state establishment of academic education, culture and science which catered to the needs of Latvia and its people. In 2017 the Riga Teacher Training and educational Management Academy was merged into the institution. The school has an Institute of Mathematics and computer science that was established in 1959 as a computer research center. It also has an institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics which was established in 1994. 

Faculty:

The faculties in the university include Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Optometry, Faculty of Business, Economics and Management, Faculty of Education, Psychology, and Arts, Faculty of Geography and earth Sciences, Faculty of History and Philosophy, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Social sciences, Faculty of Theology and Faculty of Computing.

Campus Life:

It also encourages extracurricular activities with groups such as choirs, orchestras, and dance groups available. The school also has adequate libraries, research facilities, study centers, a career center, a medical wing and a language school.

Accommodation:

The school has two hostels that accommodates international students.
