The Research and Development Service of the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare serves as one of the largest programs for research in the department of veteran affairs. The various research programs ensure veterans benefit in a number of ways. Results acquired from research have enabled the improvement of methods of diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. These methods have in turn had a direct impact on the lives of veterans. The center offers residency programs. These programs provide advanced clinical training that allows recent graduates to increase their scope and their depth of clinical knowledge and experience.

University Introduction:

The research system attracts a number of highly qualified physicians and surgeons to practice in the facilities. This provides the veterans with high standards of clinical care. These clinicians are placed within the system to allow continuity in clinical care delivery under the direction of the veterans integrate service network. VA funded research is the cornerstone that attracts the highly qualified clinicians. Primary care opportunities have been created to strengthen the link between VAs mission of research and scientific discovery and that of providing quality medical education and patient care

The residents are mentored by senior medical specialists who are national leaders in their fields. The medical specialists share their expertise on patient care, academics and research to provide an in-depth educational experience. Additionally, the hospital-based training programs increases the residents’ ability to collaborate with other medical professionals. The trainees undergo interdisciplinary rotations. 

Faculty:

The areas of training in the research center include Chiropractic Care, Nursing, Physical Medicine and Therapy, Psychiatry and Psychology.

Campus Life:

The research service hosts several centers of excellence and special emphasis programs.  They include the Cancer Research Center, VA Emergency Management Research Center, Parkinson’s Disease Research, Education and Clinical Center, Los Angeles HSR and Center of Innovation and Geriatrics Research, Education and Clinical Center. The center has a VA adapts sports and Therapeutic arts society. The events organized optimize veterans’ independence, community engagement, well-being and quality of life.
