The Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy was established in December 1944. It was inaugurated in February 1945 and the classes began after 3 days. The classes were held in the Notre Dame building. The courses included Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Histology, Physiopathology, Parasitology and Microbiology. The first year of study had 412 students and in the second year it had an additional 76 who transferred from other universities. In 1949 the first class graduated with 70 graduate students. The school has more than 4000 foreign students. The first foreign student to study in the school did so in the 1967-1968 academic year. The single student was from Yemen.

University Introduction:
The school has two semesters which include the spring semester and the winter semester. The spring semester usually starts late February and ends the beginning of July while the winter semester begins on October and ends mid-February. The first three years of study the medium of instruction is English and the fourth-year study is conducted in Romanian. Teaching in the preclinical years takes place in Medicine I and Medicine II building.
Faculty:
The faculties with their sub specialization include Faculty of Medicine (Registered nurses, Medicine, Balneo-Physio-kinesiotherapy and recuperation), Faculty of Pharmacy (pharmacy, pharmaceutical assistants) and Faculty of Dental Medicine (Dental technique, dental medicine, registered nurses in dentistry).
Campus Life:
The student organization organizes several scientific and cultural events. The school supports religion of different kind and has students who come from all over the world at liberty to practice their individual faith.
