About:

Xi’an Jiaotong University is a national key university under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education while being the country’s oldest institutions of higher learning. The university was included in the first group of universities singled out for high priority development under the country’s 7th and 8th 5-year plans. The university is proud to be in the first group of universities to benefit from Project 211 and Project 985, with the goal of becoming a world-class university. In 2000, under the State Council’s plan, the original Xi’an Jiaotong University was merged with the Xi’an Medical University and the Shaanxi Institute of Finance and Economics to form the present day Xi’an Jiaotong University.

 

Faculty:

The faculty of Xi’an Jiaotong University includes 16 members of the Chinese Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as members of the American Academy of Engineering, the British Royal Academy, and the Third-World Academy of Science. The university has 20 research facilities for post-doctoral students, 4 national key laboratories, 4 national special laboratories, 2 national engineering research centres and 59 key research centres and laboratories at the provincial and ministerial level. The faculty follows a remarkable academic system that stresses on technical skills, inter-discipline and clinical practices.

Internship:

Beginning from the last year, the internship has a duration of 1 year. Xi’an Jiaotong University allows students to do the internship in China or any other country. The tuition for the last year covers the internship fee. The students can complete their internship in any of the 3 affiliated hospitals of the university, all of which are provincial hospitals of Class A, Grade III, with a total of 3,376 beds.

 

International Collaborations:

Xi’an Jiaotong University has invited 13 Nobel laureates, 1 Fields Prize winner, and over 700 international professors to lecture. Over 10,000 scholars, CEOs, and high-level government officials from worldwide have been involved in exchanges and collaborative activities. Over 1,500 teachers and students from Xi’an Jiaotong University have gone abroad to study, do research, or to participate in programs, while over 1,300 faculty members and researchers have attended conferences abroad. The university has conducted joint programs with about 20 outstanding universities in France, USA, Italy, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Belgium.

 

Accommodation and Campus Life:

Xi’an Jiaotong University’s campus has a modern dormitory, dining, and athletic facility, including the Siyuan Student Activities Center. The university also has a psychological health education and counselling center for university students. The university’s library computer system is fully integrated with the campus network, CERNET, and the Internet. The long breaks at the university include 6 weeks of summer vacation and 4 weeks of winter vacation, annually.
